The 2022 Hyundai Accent is one of the few remaining subcompact cars on the market. Its diminutive size makes it a great choice for city dwellers, while its entry-level price appeals to car shoppers on a budget.

The Hyundai Accent received a full redesign for 2018, and it carries over with very few changes for 2022. As Hyundai's most affordable model, the Accent delivers a good amount of value with its mix of features, strong fuel economy and relatively spacious interior. The Accent is by no means a sporty car, but it drives surprisingly well for an economy car.

The Accent sedan's lack of subcompact car rivals means its competitive set is a ragtag bunch, including the Chevrolet Spark Nissan Versa, Mitsubishi Mirage and its corporate cousin, the Kia Rio. Read our test team's Expert Rating for more on the Hyundai Accent.

Which Accent does MatoCar recommend?

Though the base model's low starting price is attractive, we think the midtier SEL trim offers the most bang for buck, with its larger touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, four-wheel disc brakes, tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, sunroof and more. The jump in price is minimal, and the features you get for that extra cash would be sorely missed if you settled for an SE.

The 2022 Hyundai Accent is available in three trim levels: SE, SEL and Limited. All three are powered by a 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder engine (120 horsepower, 113 lb-ft), which comes mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission.

SE Standard features include:

  • 15-inch steel wheels
  • USB and Bluetooth smartphone connections
  • Four-speaker audio system
  • Cruise control
  • Power windows
  • Power door locks with keyless entry
  • 5-inch central display screen

SEL Stepping up to the SEL, you get all the SE features plus:

  • Alloy wheels
  • Six-speaker audio system
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration
  • 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Automatic headlights
  • Foglights
  • Two USB ports
  • Tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel

Limited Besides all of the SEL's features, the Limited trim includes:

  • Forward collision mitigation (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
  • Sunroof
  • LED headlights
  • 17-inch alloy wheels
  • Heated front seats
  • Push-button ignition
  • Automatic climate control
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob
