Infiniti's QX80 is a full-size traditional SUV with a powerful V8. This premium family hauler can seat seven or eight passengers and has enough towing capacity for most jobs. The available four-wheel-drive system can take you off the beaten path while a host of standard features keep you in the lap of luxury. For the 2022 model year, Infiniti has updated the QX80's dash with a new 12.3-inch touchscreen and more modern-looking audio and climate controls.

The current generation of the QX80 hasn't changed much since its debut in 2011. Still, this large SUV offers a quiet, luxurious and comfortable cabin. Infiniti also loads the QX80 with lots of standard advanced driver aids including automatic emergency braking and a 360-degree camera system that makes parking in tight spots considerably easier.

On the downside, this burly SUV is showing its age. When compared to competitors such as the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator, the QX80 lags behind in interior design, engine choices and efficiency. The Infiniti QX80's attractive starting price and long list of standard features will satisfy many buyers, but those looking for the latest in luxury and technology should consider others in the large luxury SUV segment.

Which QX80 does MatoCar recommend?

The Luxe and Premium Select trims are very similar. Opting for the Premium Select will get you larger 22-inch wheels and not much else. If you're OK with riding on 20-inch wheels, go for the base Luxe trim, which offers a lot of features including Nappa leather-appointed seats, a Bose audio system and a 12.3-inch center touchscreen.

The Infiniti QX80 comes in three trim levels: Luxe, Premium Select and Sensory. All trims are offered in two- or four-wheel drive and come with a 400-horsepower 5.6-liter V8. Trim feature highlights include:

Luxe Comes well equipped with:

  • 20-inch wheels
  • Self-leveling rear suspension (helps for towing and heavy payloads)
  • LED headlights
  • Three-zone climate control system
  • Power liftgate
  • Leather upholstery
  • Power-adjustable, heated front seats
  • Second-row captain's chairs (bench seat is optional)
  • Power-folding third-row seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • 13-speaker Bose audio system
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility (with wireless connectivity)
  • Wireless smartphone charger
  • Navigation system

Every QX80 also has:

  • Adaptive cruise control (maintains a driver-set distance between the QX80 and the vehicle in front)
  • Blind-spot monitor (alerts you if a vehicle in the next lane over is in your blind spot)
  • 360-degree camera system (gives you a top-down view of the QX80 and its surroundings for tight parking situations)
  • Forward collision mitigation (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
  • Lane keeping assist (steers the QX80 back into its lane if it begins to drift over the lane marker)

Premium Select Adds more style with:

  • 22-inch wheels
  • Dark chrome exterior trim
  • Additional leather upholstery colors

Sensory Increased luxury with:

  • Hydraulic Body Motion Control system (for less body roll when cornering)
  • Advanced cabin air filtration
  • 17-speaker Bose audio system
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Upgraded leather upholstery
  • Heated outboard second-row seats
  • Rear-seat entertainment system with dual 8-inch screens
