All business, but especially small business, is all about the bottom line. For small operations that transport goods and services, the 2021 Nissan NV200 is the ledger-friendliest compact commercial van around. Not only does the NV200 cost less than its direct rivals, but it's also among the most fuel-efficient in its class, getting an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in combined city/highway driving.

The NV200 has a short wheelbase and compact overall length, making it easily maneuverable in close quarters. This small van also offers generous front legroom, which taller drivers and passengers will appreciate. Those upsides come with compromises, however. The high fuel efficiency comes at the expense of acceleration and overall capability. Also, the NV200's cargo and payload capacities are lower than those of the rest of the field. These may be non-issues if you don't plan to haul heavy items or stuff the cargo area to capacity, but they're worth considering.

The NV200's interior materials also aren't up to the modest expectations for this class, and Nissan doesn't offer the advanced driving safety aids found on some other small cargo vans. The former isn't a big deal — these are work vans, after all — but the NV200 lacks some common safety aids. Still, business owners willing to sacrifice a little can save a lot with the 2021 Nissan NV200.

Which NV200 does MatoCar recommend?

Nissan only offers the NV200 in two trims, so it's a choice between bare-bones or something with a little more comfort. The SV only costs about $1,000 more than the base S, but it offers more cargo versatility (additional tie-downs and rear power outlet), safety (rear parking sensors), convenience (power mirrors) and even a splash of style (body-colored bumpers, chrome grille).

The 2021 Nissan NV200 is a two-passenger compact commercial cargo van offered in S and SV trims. Both come with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (131 horsepower and 139 lb-ft torque), a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive.

S Standard features on the bargain S trim include:

  • 15-inch steel wheels

  • 40/60-split swing-out rear cargo doors
  • Wide-angle spotter mirrors with manual adjustment
