Toyota Sienna

Say what you will about minivans, but there's no denying that they're one of the best ways to haul a bunch of people and cargo. Sure, they may not be what some consider sexy, but when you simply need to get things done, their convenience and utility are unmatched. The 2022 Toyota Sienna is one of the newer minivans out there, fresh off a full redesign last year.

For its sophomore year, this generation Sienna gains a new Woodland Edition trim level. It has standard all-wheel drive, which is otherwise an option for the Sienna, plus a few other extra features including a household-style power outlet, a tow hitch and roof rails with crossbars. Toyota also gives the Woodland Edition a slightly higher ride height. The lift is only 0.6 inch, so you're not exactly going to be crawling up rocky trails in this thing, but all the same we give Toyota some credit for introducing an additional Sienna version for those who want it.

Otherwise, the Sienna carries on with its very efficient hybrid powertrain and cavernous interior. It's a strong choice among the few other minivans that include the Chrysler Pacifica, Honda Odyssey and new Kia Carnival. Which Sienna does MatoCar recommend?

The 2022 Toyota Sienna is sold in six trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, Woodland Edition, Limited and Platinum. All models are powered by a hybrid powertrain that uses a four-cylinder engine and has a combined output of 245 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is optional except on the Woodlands Edition, where it's standard. Depending on the trim, the Sienna is available with either an eight-passenger (second-row bench seat) or a seven-passenger (second-row captain's chairs) configuration. Feature highlights include:

LE Starts you off with:

• Forward collision mitigation (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
• Lane departure warning with steering assist (alerts you if the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane and steers the Sienna back into its lane if it begins to drift over the lane marker)
• Adaptive cruise control (adjusts speed to maintain a constant distance between the vehicle and the car in front)
• Automatic high beams
• Blind-spot monitor (alerts you if a vehicle in the next lane over is in your blind spot)

An optional LE Plus package adds:

• Auto-dimming rearview mirror
• Black roof rails
• Sunroof
• Eight-speaker audio system
• Wireless charging pad

XLE Comes with more convenience features, including:

XSE Stepping up to the XSE gives the Sienna a sporty appearance with black exterior trim, a mesh grille and exclusive seat trim. It's equipped like the XLE but comes standard with the navigation system. An optional XSE Plus package adds:

• Black roof rails

• 12-speaker JBL audio system

Woodland Edition The new Woodland Edition is equipped similarly to the XSE and includes the features of XSE Plus package. It also has:

• Standard all-wheel drive
• Slightly higher ride height for better ground clearance
• Tow hitch with a 3,500-pound capacity
• Household-style power outlet

Limited The Limited model ditches the XSE's sporty touches and instead builds on the XLE with features such as:

• Power-folding exterior mirrors
• Wireless charging pad
• Leather seating
• Third-row sunshades
• Extendable footrests for second-row captain's chairs
• Standard 12-speaker JBL audio system and wireless smartphone charging

Platinum The top-of-the-line Platinum trim includes everything on the Limited, plus:

• Upgraded headlights
• Rain-sensing windshield wipers
• 360-degree camera (gives you a top-down view of the Sienna and its surroundings for tight parking situations)
• Premium leather seating
• Heated steering wheel
• Heated second-row seats

Optional for every trim except the LE is an Entertainment package that includes a rear-seat entertainment system with a rear overhead display and wireless headphones.
