The 2022 GMC Terrain is GMC's small SUV. It's similar to the Chevrolet Equinox but has a slightly nicer interior and a few extra standard features. GMC has also given it a few improvements for 2022. Headlining the changes are updated front and rear styling and new wireless functionality for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto — that means you can display your phone's apps on the Terrain's touchscreen without having to use a USB cord if you don't want to. Also new for 2022 is a new AT4 trim level that has a more rugged look and an underbody skid plate, but not much else to improve all-terrain performance.

Unfortunately, many of the Terrain's drawbacks, such as an underwhelming driving experience and a lack of cargo space, remain. GMC has also discontinued the Terrain's more powerful optional engine, leaving the underpowered base engine as your only choice. None of this bodes well for the Terrain when compared against our top-ranked alternatives in the class. These include the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5 and Nissan Rogue. Check out our full Expert Rating and evaluation below to see why the GMC Terrain misses the mark.
