  • Part of the first XT6 generation introduced for 2020

The 2022 Cadillac XT6 is a midsize three-row luxury SUV. The XT6 sits in between the smaller XT5 and the larger truck-based Escalade in Cadillac's SUV lineup. It competes with other midsize luxury crossovers such as the Acura MDX, Audi Q7 and Lincoln Aviator.

Cadillac made its base Luxury trim more appealing for the 2022 model year. It gets standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, along with its usual suite of safety and driver assistance features. Meanwhile, the XT6's top Sport trim adds upgraded Brembo brakes with red calipers, which should spice up its appearance and shorten braking distances.

Overall, we're impressed with the XT6's styling, technology and comfortable cabin, but there are a few drawbacks that keep it from the top of our three-row luxury SUV rankings. Take a look at our detailed XT6 Expert Rating to learn more.

We think most everyone would be happy with the Premium Luxury trim since it comes with the more powerful V6 engine and an impressive array of standard features. If you frequently carry numerous passengers and cargo, the base four-cylinder engine might not have enough muscle to get the job done comfortably. The Premium Luxury trim also includes leather upholstery, larger wheels and a hands-free liftgate. Plus it opens up some additional options that aren't available on the entry Luxury trim.

The 2022 Cadillac XT6 is available in three trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury and Sport. The Luxury trim comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (237 horsepower, 258 lb-ft of torque). All other XT6s get a 3.6-liter V6 (310 hp, 271 lb-ft). Both engines come with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on the Luxury and Premium Luxury, and all-wheel drive is an option. The Sport comes standard with a performance-oriented all-wheel-drive system.

Luxury This base trim's feature highlights include:

  • 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine
  • 18-inch wheels
  • Faux leather upholstery
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Roof rails
  • Power liftgate
  • Remote ignition
  • Tri-zone automatic climate control
  • Second-row bench seat (seven-passenger configuration)
  • Heated front seats
  • 8-inch infotainment display
  • LED headlights
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration
  • Eight-speaker Bose audio system
  • Six USB ports
  • Onboard Wi-Fi hotspot

Every XT6 also comes with these safety features:

  • Front pedestrian braking
  • Forward collision mitigation and automatic emergency braking (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
  • Lane keeping assist (steers the XT6 back into its lane if it begins to drift over the lane marker)
  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Blind-spot monitoring (alerts you if a vehicle in the next lane over is in your blind spot)
  • Rear cross-traffic alert (notifies the driver when backing up if the system detects people or vehicles approaching)
  • Safety alert seat (vibrates the seat in certain scenarios such as when the vehicle drifts from the lane or nears an object while parking)

Premium Luxury The midtier trim opens up the door to several options and adds these standard features:

  • 3.6-liter V6 engine
  • 20-inch wheels
  • Leather seating for the first and second rows
  • Hands-free liftgate
  • Power-folding mirrors
  • Rain-sensing wipers
  • Power-adjustable steering column
  • Heated steering wheel

  • Two-way power lumbar support for driver and front passenger
  • Wood interior accents

  • Brembo performance brakes with red painted calipers

A couple of cosmetic packages are available for the XT6. The Onyx package, offered on all trims, adds black glossy wheels and exterior trim pieces. The Radiant package is available in the Luxury and Premium Luxury trims, and it adds unique 20-inch chrome wheels, an illuminated sill plate, monochrome Cadillac emblems and a chrome grille.

The following packages and options are limited to the Premium Luxury and Sport trims:

Platinum package

  • Adaptive sport suspension (Premium Luxury only)
  • Premium leather upholstery
  • Simulated suede headliner

Driver Assist package

Technology package
