  • Comes well equipped with many standard features
  • Comfortable ride
  • High-quality cabin materials
  • Front and rear seats offer all-day comfort

  • Less practical than the related Q7
  • Infotainment system can be distracting to use
  • Throttle response is slow in the default driving mode
  • Limited interior storage

  • Upgraded infotainment systems are standard in every Q8
  • A few previously optional features are now standard equipment
  • Part of the first Q8 generation introduced for the 2019 model year

The 2022 Q8 is a midsize two-row model with seating for five people that sits at the top of the Audi SUV lineup. It is based on the Audi Q7, but it has a more stylish and sporty design and eliminates the Q7's third-row seat. The Q8 blends high-quality materials with high-tech displays to create a premium interior look and feel. Quick acceleration, standard all-wheel drive and a comfortable ride make the Q8 enjoyable to drive too.

The Q8 competes against other coupe-style SUVs such as the BMW X6, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and Porsche Cayenne Coupe. And if you want a Q8 with more performance, the V8-powered SQ8 and RS Q8 are hugely entertaining and fare well against performance SUVs from Mercedes-AMG and BMW's M performance division. Overall the Audi Q8 is one of the more practical SUV coupes on sale today, striking a good balance between style and utility and making it one of our favorite luxury SUVs. Which Q8 does MatoCar recommend?

Our favorite version of the Audi Q8 is the Premium Plus. It includes all of the comfort features and safety systems you're likely to want, coupled with a terrific sound system. Plus, it is a pathway to the sporty S line styling treatment, which helps the Q8 to stand further apart from other SUVs.

Audi offers the Q8 in your choice between three trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige. A turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 producing 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque is the only engine available in the Q8, and it uses an eight-speed automatic transmission to power all four wheels.

Standard equipment with Premium trim includes:

  • 21-inch wheels
  • LED headlights
  • Heated, power-folding and auto-dimming exterior mirrors
  • Adaptive suspension (improves ride comfort and handling)
  • Power liftgate
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Digital gauge cluster (Audi's Virtual Cockpit Plus)
  • Three-zone automatic climate control
  • Genuine wood trim
  • Leather upholstery
  • Heated front seats
  • Dual-touchscreen infotainment system
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration (with wireless connectivity)
  • Audi Connect services

Additionally, every Q8 has the following standard safety systems:

  • Forward collision mitigation (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
  • Blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert (warns you if a vehicle is in your blind spot during a lane change or while reversing)
  • Lane departure warning (alerts you if the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane)
  • Front and rear parking sensors (alert you to obstacles that may not be visible in front of or behind the vehicle when parking)

The Q8 Premium is available with a Convenience package that adds:

  • Wireless charging pad and smartphone signal booster
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Surround-view camera system (gives you a top-down view of the Q8 and its surroundings for tight parking situations)

The Q8 Premium Plus includes the contents of the Convenience package, plus:

  • Additional LED ambient lighting
  • Front seat ventilation
  • Four-zone climate control
  • 17-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system
  • Adaptive cruise control (maintains a driver-set distance between the Q8 and the car in front)
  • Lane keeping system (makes minor steering corrections to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane at speed)
  • Emergency stop assist (detects an unresponsive driver and brings the Q8 to a safe stop)

An Executive package is available for the Premium Plus, adding:

  • Matrix-design LED headlights
  • Dynamic front and rear turn-signal animation
  • Heated rear seats
  • Rear side window sunshades
  • Leather armrest trim

The Q8 Prestige models include the Executive package plus:

  • Adaptive air suspension with Comfort tuning
  • Soft-close doors (catch as they're being closed and gently pull shut)
  • Head-up display

Audi offers a Luxury package with Prestige trim. It installs:

  • Massaging front seats wrapped in premium leather
  • Additional leather trim on parts of the interior
  • Simulated suede headliner
  • Dual-pane acoustic windows for a quieter interior

Exclusive options for the Q8 Prestige include:

  • All-wheel steering
  • 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system
  • Night vision camera (displays an infrared image of the area in front of the vehicle to assist while driving at night)

All three versions of the Q8 are available with a Black Optic package and a Towing package, while sporty S line packages are available with the Premium Plus and Prestige trims.
