  • Standard supercharged V8 offers raucous performance
  • Seductive styling in coupe and convertible body styles
  • Upscale interior materials
  • Coupe offers as much cargo space as some midsize sedans

  • Infotainment interface is buggy and hard to use
  • Overly stiff ride
  • Lots of road and tire noise on rough pavement
  • Steering is heavy and doesn't provide enough feel

  • F-Type goes V8-only
  • P450 debuts as base model, and the P300 and P380 are discontinued
  • More standard equipment at a lower price than previous base model
  • Part of the first F-Type generation introduced for 2014

As Jaguar pivots to a fully electrified lineup by 2025, it seeks to position existing models in new and compelling ways. And what better way is there to celebrate the final years of the internal combustion engine than by making a supercharged V8 standard equipment on all models of the slinky 2022 Jaguar F-Type sports car?

This year, Jaguar drops the F-Type's four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines in favor of a less powerful version of the F-Type R's mighty V8. The new model designation is P450, and it signals a supercharged V8 producing 444 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque. It is available with rear- or all-wheel-drive and in coupe and convertible body styles. Regardless of the configuration, Jaguar says the new 2022 F-Type P450 accelerates to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 177 mph.

We consider this a substantial upgrade from last year's model, especially once you take into account the 2022 F-Type's more value-oriented pricing. Check out our test team's Expert Rating for our full evaluation of the Jag's performance, comfort and more.

What's it like to live with?

Though the F-Type got a substantial freshening for the 2021 model year, including enhancements to its regularly frustrating InControl Touch Pro infotainment technology, the V8-only 2022 F-Type is largely the same car we spent a year driving — and largely boasts the same pros and suffers the same cons. Learn more about what it's like to live with a Jaguar F-Type in our 2019 long-term road test.

Which F-TYPE does MatoCar recommend?

Given a choice of F-Types from the newly slimmed-down model lineup for 2022, our pick is the P450 coupe. It's hard to deny the allure of supercharged V8 power at the P450's price, combined with the coupe's remarkably accommodating 14-cubic-foot trunk.

The 2022 Jaguar F-Type is a two-seat sports car available in P450, P450 R-Dynamic and R trim levels. Each is available in a two-door coupe or two-door convertible body style, and they all employ a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine — though the F-Type R is substantially more powerful. The P450 offers rear- or all-wheel drive, while the other two come only with AWD. An eight-speed automatic transmission and active exhaust system with a Quiet Start mode are standard across the board.

P450 Loaded with value, the F-Type P450 includes:

  • Supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine (444 horsepower, 428 lb-ft)

  • 20-inch wheels
  • Adaptive suspension
  • LED headlights with automatic high-beams
  • LED taillights
  • Leather and simulated suede seating surfaces
  • Six-way power-adjustable sport seats
  • Automatic climate control
  • Digital instrumentation panel
  • 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility
  • Navigation system
  • Satellite radio
  • Remote connected services
  • Premium sound system
  • Automatic emergency braking (warns if a front impact is imminent and applies the brakes if you don't respond in time)
  • Lane keeping assist (steers the F-Type back into its lane if it begins to drift over the lane marker)
  • Parking sensors (alert you to obstacles that may not be visible in front of or behind the vehicle when parking)
  • Driver attention monitor (issues an alert if sensors determine you are becoming fatigued)

P450 R-Dynamic For a sportier look and feel, the R-Dynamic adds:

  • All-wheel drive
  • Different 20-inch wheels
  • R-Dynamic body design
  • Gloss black exterior trim
  • Unique exterior and interior detailing
  • 12-way power-adjustable seats with memory settings

  • Four exhaust outlets
  • Unique 20-inch wheels
  • Red brake calipers
  • Power liftgate (coupe)
  • Keyless entry
