  • Plenty of space for adults in all three rows
  • Lots of standard and optional high-tech features
  • Comfortable seating and ride quality

  • Handling isn't quite as crisp as that of some rivals

  • No major changes for 2022
  • Base SE trim gets blind-spot monitoring as standard
  • Part of the first Palisade generation introduced for 2020

The Hyundai Palisade is a midsize SUV with three rows of seats. This is an ideal configuration for many shoppers since it provides plenty of space for people and luggage without the need to step up to a large SUV or a minivan. The Palisade ranks a very close second to the MatoCar' Top Rated Kia Telluride, which should come as no surprise considering they're closely related under the bodywork. Each has its own style, however, with the Palisade taking on a more luxurious vibe.

There's no shortage of competitors in the midsize three-row SUV market. Besides the Telluride, you might want to also check out the well-rounded Honda Pilot, roomy Volkswagen Atlas or fuel-efficient Toyota Highlander Hybrid. But the Palisade is a standout even in this highly regarded group. Check out our Expert Rating below for our test team's full evaluation of the Palisade's comfort, utility and more.

The SEL is the sweet spot in the Palisade lineup. It doesn't cost much more than the SE and comes with an impressive number of quality-of-life upgrades such as heated front seats and keyless entry with push-button start. There are also a couple of option packages that allow you to get more features without jumping all the way to the Limited or Calligraphy.

The 2022 Hyundai Palisade is a three-row midsize SUV sold in four trims: SE, SEL, Limited and Calligraphy. All are powered by a 3.8-liter V6 (291 horsepower, 262 lb-ft of torque) that is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is an option on all trims.

A second-row bench seat with seating for eight is standard on the SE and optional for the SEL. The SEL, Limited and Calligraphy come with second-row captain's chairs that reduce capacity to seven.

SE Starts you off with:

  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • LED headlights
  • Height-adjustable driver's seat
  • Second-row bench seats with power seatback folding (eight-passenger capacity)
  • 8-inch touchscreen
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration
  • Five USB ports (three up front and two in the second row)

The Palisade is also equipped with many driving aids, including:

  • Forward collision mitigation (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
  • Lane keeping assist (steers the Palisade back into its lane if it begins to drift over the lane marker)
  • Rear parking sensors (alerts you to obstacles that may not be visible behind the vehicle when parking)
  • Adaptive cruise control (maintains a driver-set distance between the Hyundai and the car in front)
  • Blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert (warns you if a vehicle is in your blind spot during a lane change or while in reverse)

SEL Adds more desirable features, such as:

  • Sunroof
  • Roof rails
  • Proximity keyless entry and push-button ignition
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Auto-dimming rearview mirror
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Power-adjustable driver's seat
  • Heated front seats
  • Second-row captain's chairs (seven-passenger capacity; the bench seat is a no-cost option)

Two feature packages are available for the SEL:

  • Convenience package
    • 20-inch wheels
    • Self-leveling rear suspension
    • Sound-reducing front side glass
    • Upgraded driver information display
    • Hands-free liftgate
    • Rear sunshades
    • Wireless charging pad
    • Two USB ports in the third row
    • 115-volt household-style outlet
    • Front parking sensors
  • Premium package (requires Convenience package)
    • Heated steering wheel
    • Driver's seat memory settings
    • Power-adjustable passenger seat
    • Heated second-row seats
    • Power-folding third-row seats
    • Leather upholstery
    • 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation
    • Cabin intercom system
    • Lane keeping system (makes minor steering corrections to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane)

Limited Comes with all of the above features, plus:

  • Dual-pane sunroof
  • Automatic wipers
  • Digital instrument panel
  • Configurable ambient lighting
  • Head-up display (displays important information in your sight line onto the windshield)
  • More adjustments for the driver's seat
  • Ventilated front and rear seats
  • Upgraded leather upholstery
