  • Packed with modern technology features
  • Interior is lined with high-quality materials
  • Quiet cabin and comfortable ride quality

  • Lackluster fuel economy
  • Limited rear passenger and cargo space
  • Not much fun to drive

  • New infotainment system
  • Additional safety features become standard
  • Part of the second Q3 generation introduced for 2019

The 2022 Audi Q3 is a smart way to get behind the wheel of an Audi without blowing up your budget. It combines most of the goodness of the larger Q5 SUV — similar tech, convenience and safety features — in a smaller and less expensive luxury package.

The 2022 Q3 comes with feature upgrades that should help it keep pace with its BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA rivals. Audi's latest infotainment system, MIB 3, comes standard and promises faster response times, expanded satellite radio content, a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot for up to eight devices, and more nuanced voice command controls. There have also been updates to the lists of standard and optional features. For a full breakdown of the Q3's hits and misses, check out our Expert Rating below.

Which Q3 does MatoCar recommend?

Neither engine is exceptionally powerful, but we'd go with the 45 TFSI for its extra passing power. If you want to keep costs under control, the Premium trim with the Convenience package gets you all the features you really want from a luxury SUV. But we suggest going for the Premium Plus model. It doesn't cost much more and definitely adds quality-of-life improvements.

The 2022 Audi Q3 is a subcompact SUV sold in several configurations. First, you'll choose between two power levels: 40 TFSI (184 horsepower, 221 lb-ft of torque) and 45 TFSI (228 hp, 258 lb-ft). Both powertrains are driven by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, an eight-speed automatic transmission and Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system. From there, you'll select either the Premium or Premium Plus trim.

Premium The base Premium trim is well appointed with standard feature highlights that include:

  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • LED headlights
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Power liftgate
  • Illuminated door sills (45 TFSI only)
  • Tri-zone automatic climate control
  • Digital gauge cluster
  • Leather upholstery
  • Power-adjustable and heated front seats
  • 8.8-inch touchscreen
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility

On the safety front, every Q3 comes with:

  • Frontal collision mitigation (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
  • Blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert (warns you if a vehicle is in your blind spot during a lane change or while reversing)
  • Lane departure warning (alerts you if the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane)
  • Parking sensors (alert you to obstacles that may not be visible in front of or behind the vehicle when parking)

The Premium's Convenience package adds a handful of useful features for a reasonable price. These include:

  • Hands-free liftgate
  • Auto-dimming and power-folding exterior mirrors
  • Auto-dimming rearview mirror
  • Keyless entry
  • Driver's seat memory settings
  • Satellite radio

The Premium Plus adds several luxury items that include:

  • Convenience package
  • Configurable ambient lighting
  • Wireless changing pad with signal booster
  • Adaptive cruise control (adjusts speed to maintain a constant distance between the Audi and the car in front)
  • Lane keeping assist (steers the Q3 back into its lane if it begins to drift over the lane marker)
  • 360-degree camera system (gives you a top-down view of the Q3 and its surroundings for tight parking situations)

Unique to the Premium Plus is the Technology package, which adds:

  • Larger digital instrument panel cluster
  • Navigation system
  • 10.1-inch touchscreen
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay functionality
  • Amazon Alexa integration
  • Upgraded Sonos audio system

Also on the options list are:

  • Black Optic Sport package (45 TFSI only)
    • 19-inch black-painted wheels
    • Black-painted exterior accents
    • Sport seats
  • 19-inch wheels
  • 20-inch wheels (45 TFSI with Premium Plus package only)
  • Ambient interior lighting (Premium only)
