  • Quick acceleration
  • Comfortable ride
  • Sharp-looking and well-appointed interior

  • Not as entertaining to drive as the related Porsche Taycan
  • Relatively small cargo area and rear seating
  • Poor rearward visibility

  • All-new electric performance sedan
  • Standard all-wheel drive
  • About 270 miles of MatoCar-tested range
  • Kicks off the first e-tron GT generation introduced for the 2022 model year

The e-tron name has historically been used by Audi to differentiate electrified vehicles from their conventionally powered siblings. The company's first fully electric vehicle — the e-tron SUV — debuted in 2019. Now we have the 2022 Audi e-tron GT, which is the brand's all-new electric luxury sport sedan. Unlike the e-tron, the e-tron GT prioritizes performance and driving dynamics over ultimate utility.

The e-tron GT shares its basic design with the Porsche Taycan and comes standard with a 93-kWh battery pack, which is otherwise an optional upgrade for the Taycan. With it, the EPA estimates that the e-tron GT has a range of 238 miles on a full charge. That's underwhelming, but know that in our own real-world range test the GT managed a much more respectable 273 miles. And with its dual-motor setup capable of producing up to 522 horsepower, the e-tron GT is properly quick.

The 2022 Audi e-tron GT sedan is a stylish and sporty counterpoint to the already praiseworthy e-tron SUV, but it does face off against some compelling alternatives. The Porsche Taycan offers a sharper and more entertaining driving experience, for example, and the all-new Lucid Air has the potential to set new records for range and performance. There's also Mercedes-Benz's new EQS electric sedan to consider. Which luxury EV will be best for you? Read our test team's Expert Rating on the e-tron GT to help you decide.

Which e-tron GT does MatoCar recommend?

We suggest going with the midlevel Prestige trim. It may not be the quickest, but it's still sporty and much less expensive than the RS model.

The 2022 Audi e-tron GT is available in two trim levels: Premium Plus and Prestige. There's also the RS, which we review separately on MatoCar. The Premium Plus and Prestige use an electric motor at each axle (giving it standard all-wheel drive) powered by a 93-kWh battery pack. Power output is 496 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque, or 522 hp and 472 lb-ft when the car is using its temporary Boost mode. Feature highlights include:

Premium Plus Comes well equipped with:

  • 20-inch wheels with summer performance tires
  • Adaptive air suspension (adjusts to enhance ride comfort, handling and ride height)
  • Adaptive LED headlights
  • Simulated leather upholstery
  • Heated front seats
  • Fixed panoramic glass roof
  • Three-zone automatic climate control
  • Configurable digital gauge cluster display
  • 10.1-inch center touchscreen
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration (with wireless connectivity)
  • Integrated navigation system
  • Wireless charging pad with phone signal booster

Standard driver aids include:

  • Forward collision mitigation (warns you of an impending collision and applies the brakes in certain scenarios)
  • Blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert (warns you if a vehicle is in your blind spot during a lane change or while in reverse)
  • Lane departure warning (alerts you if the vehicle begins to drift out of its lane)
  • Parking sensors

Optional for the Premium Plus is the Driver Assistance package that adds:

  • Adaptive cruise control (maintains a driver-set distance between the Audi and the car in front)
  • Lane keeping assist (steers the e-tron GT back into its lane if it begins to drift over the lane marker)

Prestige The Prestige trim builds off the Premium Plus, adding:

  • Driver Assistance package
  • Ambient cabin lighting with adjustable colors
  • Bang & Olufsen premium audio system
  • Heated rear seats
  • Head-up display (displays important information in your sight line on the windshield)
  • Surround-view camera system (gives you a top-down view of the vehicle and its surroundings for tight parking situations)

The e-tron GT is available with a handful of options, including:

  • Performance package
    • Rear-axle steering (enhances handling agility)
    • Upgraded headlights
    • Torque vectoring (for improved traction and handling agility)
    • Black exterior trim
    • Carbon-fiber interior trim
  • Full Leather interior package
    • Leather upholstery
    • Upgraded front seats with ventilation and massage
